Press Release: Superintendent, Board of Education Honor Extra Mile Recipients - Each month of the 2,600+ employees of Wicomico County Public Schools, we recognize three employees for going way "above and beyond" their normal duties as Extra Mile Award Recipients. We choose one employee from each of our divisions: Academics, Business and Operations, and Student & Family Services.

Congratulations to December 2025's Extra Mile Award Recipients!

-Erika Davis, Bookkeeper at North Salisbury Elementary
Ms. Davis is not only the school bookkeeper but also the Teacher Appreciation Coordinator, Sunshine Committee Co-Chair, Friday Popcorn Maker, and an overall morale booster at NSS. She steps in wherever needed to brighten the school day at North, always with a smile and an uplifting energy that makes it a great place to be for students and staff.

-Kathy Frisch, Supervisor of Health Services
Kathy has gone above and beyond to promote our School‑Based Health Center and expand awareness of available mental health services in our schools. She has worked tirelessly to make these supports accessible—coordinating meetings with district leaders, IT, and our medical partners to remove logistical barriers and ensure families get the help they need.

Her persistence, collaboration, and commitment have made a meaningful impact on the health and mental well-being of our school community. Kathy exemplifies what it means to go the Extra Mile.

-Trina Hoffman, Long-term Substitute Teacher at Northwestern Elementary
Ms. Hoffman stepped into a long-term substitute role and quickly surpassed expectations with her dedication and genuine care for students. She created custom learning materials to support struggling learners and consistently offered help without being asked.

Her impact extended beyond general education classrooms as she provided compassionate, structured support for students with special needs. When another teacher was out, she independently led the class for two weeks, ensuring stability and continuity.

Before winter break, students and staff expressed their appreciation through heartfelt letters—affirming that Ms. Hoffman truly embodies the service, teamwork, and heart that strengthen the Northwestern school community.

If you happen to see either of these three outstanding employees, please tell them "Thank You" for all they do for Wicomico County Public Schools.
