The Mardela Junior Honor Society has been fundraising all year for their Spring service project. Members stayed after school to pick out books for local pre-kindergarten students, prepared discussion questions, and made goody bags. On Wednesday, April 9th, the junior honor society members travelled to Northwestern Elementary and Westside Primary School to read to the students and present them with their books. Next week is Spring Spirit Week and Pep Rally! Which grade will come out on top? The grade with the best spirit wear for each day's theme will count towards their pep rally point totals so start planning your attire now. Tuesday (4/22): Water Safety - grab your arm floaties and goggles to swim successfully into the week Wednesday (4/23): Generations - middle schoolers will dress as babies, Freshman as toddlers, Sophomores as teens, Juniors as adults, and Seniors as seniors! Thursday (4/24): PJ Day - get comfy Friday (4/25): Teen Beach - Bikers vs Surfers

Middle School Soccer Program Announcements Start Date: April 23 (NEW DATE), We will not start on the 16th Practices: Mondays and Wednesdays Time: 3:00 – 4:30, I will be on the field by 2:45, being on time to start is an expectation. Coach: Amy Rhodes amrhodes@mywcps.org Assistant Coach: Ronnie Bravo rramirezb@mywcps.org Where do they meet? We will meet in the middle of the track each practice unless told otherwise. What to bring: shin guards and cleats if you have them, water!!! What to wear: athletic clothing and tennis shoes, No jewelry, if you do not have proper attire you may not be able to practice. Will my child play in the Game Day on May 23?: We can only take 20 girls and 20 boys to the game day, so far we have more than that signed up to participate. So I cannot guarantee every child will be able to go. How will I decide who gets to go?: We will take attendance, behavior, attitude and performance into consideration. Expectations: Good behavior, positive attitude, and sportsmanship. It is a privilege to join this program and any student not meeting the expectations may be asked to no longer participate. My child has never played or has limited experience, is this still for them?: YES, its understandable for kids to want to try something new so we encourage them to try this and see if they like it. Beginners have to start somewhere and we can help them get started. Also understand that there are many different skill levels and each one has room to learn more. Is this co-ed? No, there will be separate girls and boys teams. However we will practice all together at times. Helpers/Jr. Coaches: You will see additional high school students helping, they will lead drills, assist in supervision and also be included in decisions making responsibilities when choosing players for game day. We expect all participants to show our high school students the same level of respect as the coaches. Attendance: We understand other commitments will come up, please try to give proper notice if practice will be missed. We look forward to seeing everyone at the first practice.

The Archery Club competed at the Maryland State 3D Championships last Saturday in Severna Park.       Shooting PR's (Personal Records) were:       Madison Rhodes       Corbin Schnoor       Kameryn Lewis Also shooting PR's and Qualifying for the Eastern Nationals held in Kentucky Myles Owens currently ranked 10th in the state for middle school boys. Aubrey Cockey currently ranked 2nd in the state for middle school girls.

Next week will be an exciting one for Wicomico County Public Schools, as educators gather from around the school system April 10th for the annual Wicomico Teacher of the Year Celebration. The 26 semifinalists who were named earlier this year, and who took part in several scored activities, will find out that night who is one of the four finalists, and which finalist is the new Teacher of the Year. Good luck to all of them, and congratulations on being such excellent representatives of the teachers in their school or special program. Thanks to Jen Seay Campbell for donating her photographic services to take the semifinalists "class photo" shown here. She also took a professional portrait of each semifinalist. National School Librarian Appreciation Day Today is National School Librarian Day. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized, are dedicated to helping our students find the resources they need to keep learning, create an environment where students can learn every day of the year, provide guidance and expose our youth not only to texts, print media, and literature but to digital resources and technology, too and connect students to libraries around the world. Today we would like to recognize our own Ms. Kara Brown for all you do. Without a doubt one of the easiest ways to make her day would be to say a quick thank you or ask for a book recommendation. Spring break will be here soon! With all the adjustments made to the 2024-2025 school year calendar due to winter weather, here is a reminder of the correct spring break dates: -Wednesday, April 16 is now a regular school day. -Thursday, April 17 is a 3-hour early dismissal day. -Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21st are days the schools and school system will be closed. -Tuesday, April 22 is the day schools and offices reopen from spring break.

Calendar Reminder: Monday, April 7 is a school day with 3-hour early dismissal for students.
